Change the button from 'Comment' to 'Save comment'

many people don't read instructions that tell them they have to select 'comment' after they type their piece. They assume it's like Word and that the comment will save automatically.
If the button said 'save comment', people would select that option.

This is a significant issue. We send links out with 'comment only' access to get feedback and thoughts on content that is of high value and importance. Recipients of the link can spend significant time adding comments, only to later find out they've all disappeared (probably because they didn't press the blue 'comment' button). Comments auto-saving by pressing the enter button would be ideal, as well as replacing the word 'comment' with 'save.' I also think that if users try to go back or leave the page and comments haven't been saved, a warning message should appear to make sure they save their comments before leaving. Or, you shouldn't be able to move on and write a new comment if you haven't saved a previous one (with a message explaining that).

This is definitely an issue we are experiencing too and people putting all the comments in without pressing the comment button, then pressing < and every comment is erased. Other programmes such as MSword don’t let you leave the page without saving any edits and changes you have made. An auto save would be ideal or a pop up message. But I do feel the button could be made clearer with changing to “save” or “save comment” or even “submit” like on this box

We have lots of stakeholders with the same issue of losing comments. As other people have mentioned, they are most likely used to using word and google docs where by pressing enter it saves the comments. It would be great if an auto save function could be added or even a pop-up warning box to remind them to save before leaving the page. We have added a guidelines box at the top as a reminder but it still occurs unfortunately.

I agree. This would be a helpful change.

Totally agree. Lots of my colleagues get so frustrated when their comments are lost. Google Docs also doesn't require a physical save, and this easy fix would sort the problem I feel.
