Make the formatting bar more obvious

The text styling popup is not very discoverable for new authors. I had to search your documentation to learn about it. I'm constantly hiring new blog authors and I'm not sure they will organically discover how to style the text and make headers. I appreciate the minimal design, but it would be more usable to have the styling toolbar visible at the top of the text box. Perhaps you could make this a setting?

We have now rolled out the fixed formatting toolbar to all customers. Thank you all for your feedback and help with shaping this feature!

Hi everyone. Just a quick note to say that the new formatting toolbar has now been rolled out to your accounts. We'll be monitoring usage data over the next couple of weeks. If you have any specific bits of feedback, please let us know!
Thanks.

James Peacock: I am not seeing it in my account. Is there something I need to do to turn it on?
James Peacock
Mike Mason: Hi Mike. That's strange. Let me look into this and get back to you.

Mike Mason: Hi Mike, I've just activated the fixed formatting toolbar for you. I think there was a discrepancy between Canny and our app. Just refresh your browser and you should see it. At the moment we're limited to only being able to activate features per account, not per user, so your team members will also see the new toolbar. Let me know if you have any problems.
Mike Mason
James Peacock: Looks great! Thanks!

James Peacock: Sooooo much better thanks.

Hello! I hope you're all well. I'm excited to announce that the new formatting toolbar will be rolling out to you next week. It will be a gradual release, with Canny voters being the first to experience this update. We'll be keeping a close eye on usage, but should you run into any problems please reach out to the team.
We've all used similar formatting toolbars in other software, so the transition should be relatively smooth, but we'll be here to fix any hiccups you may encounter.
Thanks again for your input and for your patience.

James Peacock: Fantastic. This will make a HUGE difference to usability. Thanks for listening and responding to feedback :)

Hi everyone, I hope you're all keeping well. I just wanted to share a quick update to say we've been making some great progress on this feature over the past few weeks. As you can see from the attached preview, all our format options will be accessible from the fixed toolbar. This includes things like blockquotes, super/subscript formats and tables. It is performing really well in internal alpha testing, and we can't wait to get it in your hands very soon.
Eleanor Cave
James Peacock: Can't wait. This feature is one I REALLY want :)

Hi everyone, we're now starting work on this feature. After going through all the feedback, we feel a static formatting toolbar is the best approach. I won't give too much away at this early stage, but expect to see this feature make its way to your content editor in the coming weeks. As always, thanks for everyone's input.

Please make formatting / text style bar stay put at top of text box. Currently the text formatting bar pops in over the copy you're trying to edit, so you can't see what you're doing. It's maddening and increases potential for error and that means inefficiency. Please and thank you.

Merged in a post:
Improve formatting bar
Eleanor Cave
It took me ages to: A) Find the add quotes icon B) Work out how to activate the + icon and then get the existing text into quote format. I'm really missing the old formatting bar where everything was in one place and the bar was always present (mind you I didn't like the inability to ascertain heading levels in the old version). Can you please look at improving this experience as it's quite clunky and frustrating at the moment.

I second this. The current design is a disaster because unless I highlight the text I can't see the toolbar. I am also not a fan of linking a text as it is hard to see the entire link because the window is a tiny one. Unless I click the link I won't know what the link is.

The pop up with the quotes tags is really hard to invoke. It would help to have all styling options in one bar.
